The Story
Anemia remains one of the most widespread yet preventable public health challenges in India. In the communities where we work, low haemoglobin levels — driven by iron-deficient diets, limited awareness, and delayed intervention — affect children, adolescents, and adults alike. Left unaddressed, anemia impairs physical growth, cognitive development, immunity, and productivity, particularly among women and children.
Many families are unaware of the importance of iron-rich and balanced diets. Without systematic screening and follow-up, cases of anemia often go undetected until they become severe. Existing health services may not reach vulnerable populations consistently enough to ensure timely identification and sustained support.
“Many families are unaware of the importance of iron-rich and balanced diets.”
Recognising this gap, SNEH Foundation launched Mission Zero Anemia in 2024 as a CSR initiative by Veritas, Pune — a structured, community-based program aimed at reducing anemia prevalence through early detection, nutritional supplementation, and sustained behaviour change across PCMC and Pune.

Story of impact
Since its launch in 2024, Mission Zero Anemia has reached 600 beneficiaries across 6 communities in PCMC and Pune. Through systematic HB screening, awareness campaigns, and nutritional supplementation, the program has enabled early detection and timely intervention for individuals with low haemoglobin levels.
Community-level anemia committees have been formed to sustain awareness efforts and ensure continued follow-up. By connecting identified cases with government health facilities through a structured referral system, the program has strengthened the bridge between community-based care and formal healthcare services.
The initiative continues to expand its reach, working towards its goal of reducing anemia prevalence through prevention, early intervention, and community-driven action.
