The Story
In the rural and low-income communities where we work, access to primary healthcare is often limited. Distance from hospitals, loss of daily wages, financial constraints, and hesitation to approach formal medical institutions frequently delay treatment. Minor infections go untreated. Chronic illnesses remain undiagnosed. Preventable conditions escalate simply because care is not accessible at the right time.
For children, elderly individuals, and pregnant or lactating mothers, such delays can have serious consequences. We observed that many families were seeking medical help only when conditions became severe.
“We observed that many families were seeking medical help only when conditions became severe.”
Recognising this gap, we initiated the Mobile Medical Van in 2023 to bring essential healthcare services directly to communities — removing barriers and enabling early intervention.

Story of impact
During a medical camp in Panchgani, we met Om, an 11-year-old boy suffering from a severe ear infection. His ear was swollen, with pus discharge and noticeable hearing difficulty. Without timely intervention, the infection could have worsened and affected his long-term health.
Through the Mobile Medical Van camp, Om was examined and advised to consult an ENT specialist for specialised care. We counselled his family on proper ear hygiene and the importance of early treatment.
Om received timely medical attention from an ENT doctor. His ear pain reduced significantly, swelling subsided, discharge stopped, and his hearing improved. Early identification and referral ensured that a manageable condition did not escalate into a more serious complication.
Om's case reflects the importance of accessible primary healthcare in underserved communities.
