The Story
About this program
In the urban slum communities where we work, pregnancy and early motherhood are often marked by uncertainty, fear, and lack of access to timely healthcare. Many women register late for antenatal care, hesitate to visit hospitals, or are unaware of the importance of regular check-ups, nutrition, and postnatal support. Social stigma, financial constraints, limited mobility, and lack of information further increase health risks for both mothers and children.
The first 1,000 days of life — from conception to a child's second birthday — are critical. Health complications, poor nutrition, and lack of medical supervision during this period can lead to long-term physical, developmental, and emotional challenges, and in severe cases, maternal or infant mortality.

At SNEH Foundation, we saw the urgent need for a community-based intervention that brings care, awareness, and consistent support directly to women and families — where they live.
On the ground
What this program does
Regular home visits and one-on-one counselling
Antenatal care (ANC) support, including early registration, vaccination guidance, and nutritional counselling
Postnatal care (PNC) support focusing on maternal recovery, breastfeeding techniques, infant feeding frequency, and hygiene
Follow-up support for mothers with high-risk or surgical deliveries, including post-operative care
Child health counselling on immunisation, feeding practices, infection management, and hygiene
Family planning counselling for newly married couples, addressing risks of early pregnancy and child spacing
Monthly adolescent group sessions covering menstrual hygiene, nutrition, gender equality, personal hygiene, and life skills
Coordination and information sharing with ASHA workers, ICDS, Anganwadi centres, and government health facilities

Anoum Shaikh
Anoum Shaikh, an adolescent beneficiary from Vetalnagar under Project Vatsalya, has consistently stood out as an active and enthusiastic participant in all community activities conducted by SNEH Foundation. Her eagerness to learn, participate, and grow has made her a strong role model among her peers.
Coming from a financially constrained background, Anoum faced significant challenges in accessing opportunities beyond her immediate surroundings. Despite her talent and determination, limited resources often became a barrier to achieving her aspirations.
Recognizing her potential and dedication, SNEH Foundation, with the support of Wipro Cares, extended financial assistance of ₹10,000 to help her travel to Nepal and represent India on an international platform. This support was not just financial — it was a step towards empowering a young girl to dream beyond limitations and achieve greater heights.
Through her continuous engagement in Project Vatsalya, Anoum has developed confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of purpose. Her active participation in awareness sessions, community activities, and various initiatives reflects the positive impact of sustained community-based interventions.
Today, Anoum's journey stands as an inspiring example of how timely support and encouragement can transform lives. By enabling her to represent her country at an international level, SNEH Foundation and Wipro Cares have reinforced their commitment to ensuring that no dream is limited by financial constraints.
