A Leap Towards Purpose

Azim, a 14-year-old from the Kalakhadak slum, was heading down a dangerous path. He had fallen in with local teen groups involved in petty crime and spent his days aimlessly roaming the streets. His relationship with his father was strained — his father struggled with alcohol use and showed little interest in Azim's future.

When SNEH Project Gyan reached out to the community, Azim was reluctant to join. But the persistent engagement of community educators gradually drew him in. The team identified his natural athletic ability and encouraged him to channel his energy into sports, particularly Long Jump.

With regular practice and mentorship, Azim began competing in local and district-level athletics competitions. His dedication grew, and he started setting his sights on national-level participation.

The most remarkable change was in his family. When Azim's father saw his son's transformation — the discipline, the ambition, the focus — he made a life-changing decision of his own. He quit drinking, committed to supporting his son's athletic journey, and rebuilt their relationship.

Azim's story is a testament to how identifying a child's strengths and providing the right support can redirect an entire family's trajectory.
