One Family, Many Battles Won

Bhimrao, a poor farmer from Akkalkot, migrated to Pune after drought and debt made farming impossible. He arrived at Kalakhadak slum with three daughters and a pregnant wife, with no stable income and no support network.

SNEH Foundation came in contact with the family through community outreach and began addressing each challenge one at a time. Jyoti, the youngest daughter, was identified as severely malnourished and stunted. She was enrolled in a specialised growth intervention programme and began receiving treatment from medical specialists.

Vijaylakshmi, the eldest daughter, had dropped out of school to help her mother at home. The SNEH team counselled the family and re-enrolled her in Class 8 at Secondary School, Wakad. Saraswati, the middle daughter, joined SNEH’s daily classes at Kalakhadak and became one of their brightest and most motivated learners.

After the birth of a fourth child, SNEH’s team counselled Bhimrao’s wife on family planning. Bhimrao himself, encouraged by the visible changes in his children, became more motivated and committed to providing for his family.

This family’s story reflects SNEH’s belief in sustainable, holistic change — not addressing one problem in isolation, but walking alongside a family through all of them.
